What Adobe Firefly really costs
Firefly's pricing becomes clear once you convert credits into seconds. Adobe's published rate for Firefly video is 100 credits per second at 1080p, 50 credits per second at 720p and 20 credits per second at 540p. A five-second clip therefore costs 500 credits at 1080p, 250 at 720p or 100 at 540p.
On Standard, Pro and Pro Plus, 100 credits cost about $0.50 ($9.99 buys 2,000; $19.99 buys 4,000; $49.99 buys 10,000), so a five-second 1080p clip costs about $2.50 in credits on any of those plans — the bigger plans buy volume, not a cheaper second, until Premium, where 50,000 credits for $199.99 brings 100 credits to about $0.40 and the same clip to about $2.00, alongside unlimited Firefly Video Model use. Retakes multiply all of these figures.
$2.50
One 5-second 1080p clip (500 credits) on Standard, Pro or Pro Plus
$1.25
One 5-second 720p clip (250 credits) on the same plans
$0.50
One 5-second 540p clip (100 credits) — draft quality
4 clips
1080p 5-second clips in Standard's whole 2,000-credit month
Rates and plan credits are from Adobe's Firefly plans page and generative credits FAQ as reported in October 2026 checks of adobe.com; Adobe's plans page itself renders its prices through scripts our reader could not execute, so confirm the figures on adobe.com before buying. Premium's unlimited Firefly Video Model use makes its per-clip figure a floor, not a cap.
What is Adobe Firefly?
Adobe Firefly is Adobe's generative AI studio on the web. From one account you can generate and edit images, create video from text or a still, work with audio, and build moodboards in Firefly Boards. The homepage describes it as an all-in-one creative studio with 30+ AI models in one place: Adobe's own Firefly models sit alongside partner models, so a creator can try several engines for a shot without opening new accounts elsewhere.
For video specifically, Firefly generates short clips with its own Firefly Video Model and partner video models, and the same subscription pot also pays for premium image and audio features across Creative Cloud apps. That bundling is the point of the product. If you already pay for Creative Cloud, Firefly is less a new tool than an allowance you may already partly own; if you do not, the standalone Firefly plans are the clean way in. Either way, the credit system — not the feature list — is what decides whether Firefly is cheap or expensive for you.
How Adobe Firefly works
- 1Start free: Adobe offers daily generations that refresh each day, so you can test image, video and audio models before paying anything.
- 2Decide what you actually generate. Standard image features are unlimited on paid plans; credits only meter premium work such as video, audio and partner models.
- 3Pick a plan by video seconds, not by headline credits: at 1080p, Firefly video costs 100 credits per second, so work out your monthly finished seconds first.
- 4Generate stills and drafts with standard (unlimited) features, and only spend premium credits on approved shots and partner models.
- 5Refine in Firefly or hand off to Adobe Express, Photoshop or Premiere — the ecosystem hand-off is Firefly's main advantage.
- 6If credits run dry mid-month, upgrade or buy a credit add-on rather than letting a project stall; unused monthly credits do not roll over.
Core features
Text and image-to-video generation
Generate short clips from a prompt or animate a still, using the Firefly Video Model or partner video models in the same interface.
Image generation and editing
Generate images and use tools such as Generative Fill, Generative Expand and Generative Erase. On paid plans these standard features are unlimited and do not spend premium credits.
Partner models in one place
Firefly hosts models from other providers alongside Adobe's own, so you can compare engines per shot while paying one Adobe bill.
Audio and translation tools
Speech, music, sound and translation features draw from the same credit pot, which suits creators producing a complete asset set rather than a lone clip.
Firefly Boards
Moodboards and storyboards for developing a look before you spend premium credits on generation.
Creative Cloud integration
Firefly features live inside Adobe's wider apps, and Creative Cloud plans carry their own credit allowances — Creative Cloud Pro matches Firefly Pro's 4,000 premium credits.
Firefly Services API
Programmatic access to Firefly models for teams building generation into their own pipelines, billed separately on a usage basis.
The free plan — the full truth
Firefly's free tier is genuinely open: in Adobe's own words on its plans page, you do not need a plan to get free daily generations across image, video and audio, with limits that refresh every day. That makes it one of the better free testing offers among the big generators — you can try real, current models, including partner models, rather than a crippled demo engine.
The honest limits are about volume and credit mechanics, not access. Free use still deducts from a limited allowance for standard generations and offers only limited complimentary premium runs, and Adobe does not publish the exact daily count. Treat the free tier as a daily tasting menu: excellent for learning what each model does well, not a production budget. The moment video becomes weekly work, the Standard plan's 2,000 premium credits are the real entry point.
- • Daily generation limits refresh daily; Adobe does not publish the exact free count
- • Free use deducts credits for standard generations (paid plans make standard features unlimited)
- • Only limited complimentary premium (video/partner model) runs on the free tier
- • Monthly paid-plan credits reset each cycle and do not roll over
- • Commercial-use and watermark specifics for free output were not stated on the pages read this session — check Adobe's generative AI terms before client work

Plan names, prices and credit allowances are Adobe's published US figures for its Firefly plans, checked against adobe.com reporting in October–November 2026; Adobe's plans page loads prices via scripts, so the figures could not be re-read in our text reader this session — verify on adobe.com/products/firefly/plans before subscribing. Creative Cloud bundles carry separate allowances.

Adobe Firefly alternatives
See all alternatives →If you want many models under one bill without the Adobe bundle, OpenArt is the closest alternative in this batch: 100+ models, consistent characters and a Director mode from $14/month. For directed generation plus editing, Runway remains the specialist. If your work is mostly stills with occasional video, Firefly Standard's unlimited standard features are hard to beat; if it is mostly video, compare Kling AI's cheaper per-credit pricing before committing.
Runway
Runway is one of the most complete creative AI video platforms, combining text and image-to-video generation with editing tools such as background changes, relighting and object removal. It is aimed at creators and teams who want generation and post-production in one workspace rather than a single-purpose generator.
Kling AI
Kling AI, developed by Kuaishou, produces detailed short clips from text or images and has become a popular budget-friendly alternative to Western generators. Its newer models support longer, higher-resolution output and are widely used for social and cinematic-style short clips.
Pika
Pika focuses on quick, fun short-form generation with effects and templates that make images melt, inflate, transform and move. It is popular with social creators who want eye-catching clips quickly rather than long cinematic sequences.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Adobe Firefly free to use?
Yes — Adobe offers free daily generations across image, video and audio that refresh daily, with no plan required. The limits are unpublished and premium runs are limited, so it is a testing tier rather than a production tier.
How many Firefly credits does a video use?
Firefly video costs 100 credits per second at 1080p, 50 per second at 720p and 20 per second at 540p. A five-second 1080p clip is 500 credits — a quarter of the Standard plan's monthly allowance.
Do Firefly credits roll over?
No. Monthly plan credits reset on the billing date and unused credits are lost; that is worth remembering before buying a large plan for one project.
Firefly or a standalone generator like Runway?
Choose Firefly if you live in Adobe apps or want image, audio and video under one pot. Choose Runway if you want a video-first studio with editing tools and camera control. On entry price they are close: $9.99/month for Firefly Standard against $12/month billed annually for Runway Standard.
Does Firefly include partner models?
Yes. Firefly's homepage states it brings 30+ AI models together in one place, including partner models alongside Adobe's own; premium and partner generations spend credits.
Can I access Firefly through an API?
Yes, through Firefly Services, Adobe's API offering. It is billed separately from creator plans, on a usage basis.
