Our verdict

Best for marketers and faceless channels turning scripts and articles into narrated videos at volume — a repurposing machine, not a generation studio.

What Pictory really costs

Pictory now runs on one shared credit pool for its AI features: the pricing page states that credits are the common currency across everything you create. Starter grants 24,000 credits a year for $25/month billed annually — $300 a year, so a credit costs about $0.0125. The same page prices generation per second: its Veo 3.1 Fast model at 1080p costs 10 credits per second without audio. A finished minute at that rate is 600 credits, about $7.50 in Starter credit value.

The cards below use that rate. Remember that Pictory's classic script-to-video assembly leans on stock footage rather than per-second generation, so a stock-led video can cost far fewer credits than a generation-led one — the per-second rate bites when you generate scenes instead of matching stock.

$7.50

Per finished minute of generated video (Veo 3.1 Fast, 1080p, no audio) on Starter — first take

$15.00

Per finished minute at the same rate — two generations per scene

$22.50

Per finished minute at the same rate — three generations per scene

Derivation: Starter is $25/month billed annually ($300/year) with 24,000 credits granted for the year, about $0.0125 per credit; Pictory's pricing page lists Veo 3.1 Fast generation at 1080p as 10 credits per second without audio, so 60 seconds = 600 credits = $7.50. Rates differ by model and audio — the credit table is in the fine print of Pictory's pricing page.

What is Pictory?

Pictory turns written content into finished, narrated video. Paste a script or drop in a blog post URL, and it breaks the text into scenes, matches each line with stock footage or generated visuals, adds an AI voiceover and captions, and hands you an editable draft. It also works in the other direction: upload a long video and it can pull out short highlight clips and summaries. For content teams sitting on articles, webinars and scripts, it removes most of the manual assembly from repurposing.

The current version leans into generation as well as assembly: the pricing page shows an AI video agent, prompt-based image and video generation using several named models, stock and custom avatars, and multilingual voices. But the centre of gravity is still speed over originality. Pictory will not invent cinematic footage for you, and its first-draft visual matches sometimes miss the point of a line. What it does well is produce a watchable, captioned, correctly formatted video from text in minutes — which is exactly what high-volume marketing and faceless-channel workflows need.

How Pictory works

  1. 1Start the 14-day free trial — it includes 300 credits and up to three videos, with Pictory branding on exports, so use it to judge the workflow rather than to publish.
  2. 2Choose your source: paste a script, enter an article URL, upload slides, or upload a long video to summarise and clip.
  3. 3Let Pictory build the first draft — scenes, matched visuals, voiceover and captions — then scan it scene by scene.
  4. 4Fix the mismatches: swap stock clips that do not fit the line, adjust the voice and pacing, and apply your brand kit (colours, fonts, logo) so the video does not look generic.
  5. 5Preview the full video with captions on, since caption errors are the most common first-draft fault.
  6. 6Export at 1080p on a paid plan, in landscape, portrait or square depending on the channel.

Core features

Script-to-video

Paste a finished script and Pictory splits it into scenes, finds a visual for each line, and narrates it — the core workflow for faceless channels and video versions of written content.

Blog and article-to-video

Feed in a post URL and Pictory condenses the article into a video script and draft, giving content teams a second life for articles that already rank or convert.

AI video agent and scene editor

Brief the agent and it builds the video; then refine scene by scene in the editor, swapping visuals, editing text and re-timing without leaving the tool.

Long-video summarising and highlights

Upload a webinar, podcast or recording and Pictory produces summaries and short highlight clips with captions — the repurposing route for teams with more footage than time.

Voices, avatars and stock libraries

Plans include multilingual AI voices (ElevenLabs voices on the pricing page), stock and custom avatars, and access to millions of royalty-free videos from Getty Images and Storyblocks, with the library size growing by tier.

Automatic subtitles with export

Captions are generated from the audio and can be exported as .srt, .vtt or text files, so the same captions can travel to platforms that want a separate subtitle file.

The free plan — the full truth

Pictory's free route is a 14-day trial, not an ongoing free plan. According to Pictory's pricing page, the trial includes 300 generative credits (up to about 10 minutes of generated content), three videos from a script or URL, 720p export and 500MB of storage. Our verified data adds the key catch: trial downloads are watermarked — the pricing page shows the same thing in its own language, listing 'Pictory branding: Included' for the trial and 'Not included' on every paid plan.

So judge the trial on workflow, not output. Three branded, lower-resolution videos are enough to learn whether the script-to-video assembly fits how you work, and nothing more. One thing we deliberately do not claim: Pictory's terms neither clearly grant nor clearly ban commercial use of trial output, so that point stays unverified in our data — for any commercial publishing, the safe reading is that you need a paid plan, which starts at $25/month billed annually and removes the branding.

  • • Trial is 14 days with 300 credits and three script-to-video projects — not a permanent free plan
  • • Trial exports carry Pictory branding (watermarked downloads)
  • • Trial export is capped at 720p; paid plans export at 1080p
  • • Commercial use of trial output is not clearly granted — treated as unverified in our data
  • • Stock visual matches in the first draft sometimes need manual swapping

Pros

  • + Script and article-to-video assembly is genuinely fast and beginner-friendly
  • + Good stock footage matching with a large Getty/Storyblocks library on paid plans
  • + Captions, highlights and summaries make one long asset yield many videos
  • + All paid plans include the full model and feature set — tiers differ mainly in credits and seats
  • + Clear trial: 14 days and 300 credits is enough to judge the workflow

Cons

  • − Trial exports are branded and capped at 720p — not publishable for most brands
  • − First-draft visual matches can miss the meaning of a line and need swapping
  • − Output can look stock-heavy without brand-kit and editing effort
  • − Generation-led scenes burn the shared credit pool per second
  • − API access is not included in the standard plans — it has its own pricing

Best for

  • ✓ Marketers repurposing blog posts and scripts into video at volume
  • ✓ Faceless channels that publish narrated videos on a schedule
  • ✓ Teams turning webinars and podcasts into captioned highlights
  • ✓ Educators converting written lessons into narrated explainers

Not ideal for

  • ✕ Original cinematic generation — this is an assembly tool first
  • ✕ Anyone who needs publishable output from the free trial
  • ✕ Perfectionists unwilling to fix first-draft visual matches

If you need a human presenter rather than narrated stock footage, Synthesia is the better route: a digital avatar reads your script to camera, which suits training and corporate video. Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pictory free?

There is no permanent free plan. Pictory offers a 14-day free trial with 300 credits, three script-to-video projects and 720p exports that carry Pictory branding. Publishing clean work needs a paid plan, from $25/month billed annually.

Does Pictory watermark trial videos?

Yes. Trial downloads are watermarked — Pictory's pricing page lists branding as included on the trial and removed on every paid plan.

How much does one Pictory video cost?

For stock-led script-to-video, the cost is mainly your plan and time. For generated scenes, Pictory's pricing page rates its Veo 3.1 Fast model at 10 credits per second at 1080p without audio; on Starter (24,000 credits a year for $300) a finished generated minute works out at about $7.50 in credits for a first take.

Can I use Pictory videos commercially?

Paid plans are sold for commercial content marketing, and paid exports carry no Pictory branding. For trial output, Pictory's terms do not clearly grant commercial use, so we list that point as unverified — do not publish trial exports commercially.

Pictory or InVideo AI — which is better for repurposing articles?

Pictory is the more focused repurposing tool: article-to-video, script-to-video and long-video highlights are its core. InVideo AI is broader and more template- and ad-oriented. If your source material is written content, Pictory's workflow is usually the shorter path.

Does Pictory have an API?

Yes, Pictory offers an API — but note that the pricing page shows API access is not included in the standard Studio plans; the API has its own plans.
